How did you know your dress was “the one”?
My wedding dress ended up being the fourth dress I put on at the very first store we visited. Initially, something felt very special about it, but I wrote off that feeling just assuming it was butterflies and nerves. Surely it wasn’t the dress itself, but the overwhelmingness of trying on wedding dresses for the first time, right?
At the end of the appointment, that fourth dress got brought out again, this time with a veil and everyone in my group burst into tears (including my aunt who I hadn’t seen cry in years). In that moment, with ABBA softly playing in the background and the happy cries from my family, the dress went from feeling like something special to feeling like something completely magical.

What moment from your wedding day felt the most magical?
Getting married at the end of June in Calgary is always a gamble. We are just as likely to have insane forest fire smoke as we are to have city-wide flooding. The weekly forecast kept us all guessing as it changed almost every hour the week leading up to the wedding.
The morning arrived, and we were blessed with blue skies, puffy white Toy Story clouds, and a warm temperature. That blissful weather continued throughout the morning until 2 hours before the outdoor ceremony when the dark clouds rolled in and with them came hail and flash flooding.
This truly became the most “out of our control” moment of the entire wedding planning process. But as luck would have it (or maybe it was one of my 4 Etsy weather witches, or the sausage buried in the backyard) the clouds moved through just as quickly as they came.
The sun came out, the wet grass dried up, and I was able to have the outdoor ceremony of my dreams. The sun beat down on us during our vows and I like to believe it was sign from a higher power. When I look back on my wedding day, the abrupt changes in weather made the outdoor ceremony all the more special and the moments of sun felt like a good omen for our marriage and future!
What advice would you give yourself when you first got engaged?
Everyone claims to be an expert when it comes to wedding planning. You will get loads of solicited (and most times unsolicited) advice throughout your wedding planning process. Take what resonates and leave what doesn’t. Everyone’s wedding and advice are so unique to themselves and their partner, stay true to yourself!
